Georgia First Generation Foundation's Benefit Gala Raises Record Funds, Honors First-Gen Leaders



Duluth, GA – [April 18, 2025] – The Georgia First Generation Foundation (Georgia FirstGen) hosted its third annual Benefit Gala on April 11, 2025, at The 1818 Club, raising awareness and over $9,500 to support scholarships and programming for first-generation students in Georgia.   



The Gala celebrated the achievements of first-generation students and professionals, honoring ten outstanding Under 40 honorees. These "Rising Stars of the FirstGen Movement" have made significant contributions to their fields and communities. The event also bestowed the prestigious Dr. Bobby Gueh Leadership Award on Barton Robinson and Joanna Key, recognizing their exceptional leadership and dedication to the FirstGen community.   


The evening featured inspiring remarks from Founder and Executive Director Charbel Aoun, who shared the organization's journey and impact, noting that Georgia FirstGen has served over 1,000 students since 2016. Aoun emphasized the resilience and transformative power of first-generation individuals, stating,

"The path of a first-generation student is never easy. But tonight reminds us that remarkable things happen when we walk that path together. We are not just first-generation students and professionals. We are powerful agents of transformation. We are community builders. We are door openers".   

Keynote Speaker Dr. Bobby Gueh delivered an empowering address, encouraging attendees to support the next generation of leaders. Gala attendees also heard powerful testimonials from Gaby Sifuentes, a student interning at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and Emily Espinoza, who will be interning at Google, showcasing the tangible impact of Georgia FirstGen's programs.
